How to use the Pyramid Cubic Feet Calculator
- Measure the two perpendicular sides of the rectangular base. Height runs straight from the base plane to the apex.
- Choose the shape mode, where available, and a unit for each dimension. Enter the number of identical objects.
- Select Calculate. Review the result and its working; if you change an input, calculate again before copying or sharing.
Pyramid formula
Convert each length to feet, apply the displayed solid-volume formula, then multiply by the number of identical objects.
base length × base width × vertical height ÷ 3
What the terms mean
- Base length
- A measured length in the selected unit; it is converted to feet before volume is calculated.
- Base width
- A measured length in the selected unit; it is converted to feet before volume is calculated.
- Vertical height
- A measured length in the selected unit; it is converted to feet before volume is calculated.
- Number of identical items
- The whole-number count of objects with the same entered dimensions.
Pyramid worked examples
Find a rectangular pyramid volume
A pyramid has a 4 ft × 3 ft base and a vertical height of 6 ft.
- base length × base width × vertical height ÷ 3
- length = 4 ft
- width = 3 ft
- height = 6 ft
- 24 ft³ × 1 = 24 ft³
Answer: 24 ft³. Cubic yards: 0.888889 yd³; Litres: 679.604318 L.
Find a square pyramid volume
A square pyramid has a 6 ft × 6 ft base and a vertical height of 9 ft.
- base length × base width × vertical height ÷ 3
- length = 6 ft
- width = 6 ft
- height = 9 ft
- 108 ft³ × 1 = 108 ft³
Answer: 108 ft³. Cubic yards: 4 yd³; Litres: 3,058.219432 L.
Pyramid Cubic Feet Calculator FAQs
Can I use it for a square pyramid?
Yes. Set base length equal to base width.
Can I enter the face slant height?
Use vertical height. Slant height is measured along a face and must be converted geometrically first.
Measurement guide for Pyramid
Measure the base rectangle separately from the vertical distance to the apex. Slant height is not the height used in this formula.
Assumptions and limits
The formula divides the corresponding box volume by three. Non-rectangular bases need their own area calculation.
Check your result
Check the dimensions converted to feet in the working. For similar solids, doubling every dimension increases volume by a factor of eight.
